Area of Interest

Satellite imagery is collected according to customer-defined Areas of Interest (AOIs). Because the imagery is acquired according to exact AOI co-ordinates, there is no nominal scene location or Path/Row system for the sensor. The Area of Interest (AOI) is a customer specified geographic area.

The AOI may be defined by
  1. the upper left and lower right coordinate points of a square or rectangular AOI in geographic coordinates (Geographic Lat/Long; WGS84) or

  2. an ArcView polygon-shape file supplied by the customer (Geographic Lat/Long; WGS84).
New data acquisitions: an AOI is defined by the latitude/longitude of the Upper Left (UL) and Lower Right (LR) points of a square or rectangular AOI. Latitude and longitude should be expressed in the following formats:
deg:min:sec or decimal degrees.

Further guidelines for defining an AOI are:
  • Large AOIs can be oriented in any direction.
  • For new acquisition orders or irregular polygon AOIs, a larger area may have to be imaged - please contact EUSI Customer Support for assessment of Minimum Imaging area Requirement (MIA).
